7 Obstacles Every Team Faces When Going Remote (and How to Overcome Them)

According to a famous Stanford study, working from home can boost productivity.

But tell that to everyone suddenly working remotely amid the distractions of family, pets, homeschooling, a stocked fridge, and more.

Time management is certainly one of the biggest obstacles to being productive while working at home. My Source and Recruit Company colleagues and I feel your pain.

It’s essential you find a way to isolate yourself in your home so you can tune out at least some of the chatter. That might mean turning off the TV, donning your noise-cancelling headphones, putting your phone on airplane mode or firing up a white noise machine.

Not everyone has the luxury of a home office. People living in tiny apartments in big cities, for instance, have to make do with the space they’re given. So, you may have to get a little creative to carve out your corner. But the ability to tune out distractions is critical if you’re going to work at home.

If you find yourself getting cabin fever or feeling lonely, a great alternative is to join a coworking space. Just because your working “from home” doesn’t mean you have to work alone. This has been a game changer for The Source and Recruit team, to the point where we decided to take it to the next level and open our own space in Sheboygan, Wisconsin called Sheboygan Works.
